2020-21 Virtual Art Show

Donated $2100 to the Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas

In 2020, amidst the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, my family faced a unique situation as my brother Raj, who has Down Syndrome and Autism, was considered high-risk. As we adjusted to the new normal of staying indoors and practicing social distancing, I witnessed Raj's struggle with the sudden change in routine. It was heart-wrenching to see him go from being excited about everyone being home to grappling with the concept of social distancing. Determined to find a way to engage and uplift him, I turned to art.

Teaching Raj how to paint became not only a source of joy for him but also a means for me to destress and find solace in creativity. Inspired by the positive impact of art on Raj's life, I realized the potential of using my passion for art to make a difference in the community and raise awareness about causes close to my heart.

Thus, the idea for "Art for a Cause" was born during those challenging times in March 2020. In March 2021, while in 7th grade, I took the initiative to host my own Virtual Art Show titled "Charity Begins at Home." With over 60 paintings created and sold online, I was able to raise more than $2100 for DSACT (Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas), supporting over 800 families in the region. This experience not only reaffirmed my commitment to giving back but also sparked a desire to continue my non-profit efforts annually.

Moving forward, my vision for "Art for a Cause" is to host impactful events year after year, raising both funds and awareness for causes that hold personal significance to me. Through the transformative power of art, I aspire to make a lasting difference in the lives of individuals and families affected by various challenges, spreading hope, joy, and positivity one painting at a time.

"We are so impressed with Shreya's artistry and ingenuity. We're honored that she is using her talent to raise awareness and funds for DSACT and our Down syndrome community!"
